What is Ceramic Wave © ?

The Ceramic Wave © concept combines my professional background as a biologist and fish ecologist with my artistic pottery work. My motive is to create effective "eyecatchers" as visual centrepieces and, at the same time, avoiding the trouble with wood or stone decoration, like floating, releasing tannins and minerals, occupying a lot of volume, or simply not being ideal in shape.

All Ceramic Wave © products are handmade in my studio close to Munich/Germany. Therefore, not a single piece is really identical to another one. Their unique, nature-like, and everlasting coloration is creating by mixing natural black and white ceramic clay. Their surface is unglazed, not polished, rough like a rock, perfect for fixing plants and mosses, and providing a good base for biofilm-grazers like shrimp and snails. Not even at a second gaze one would be able to distinguish them from a natural piece of driftwood - except that their shape may be extraordinary.

All Ceramic Wave © products consist of high-fired, food safe, frost- and fire-resistant, so-called “stoneware” ceramic, as it is also used for high-quality teacups and other tableware. Therefore, they can be inserted immediately into the aquarium, without any watering, and they don't alter the water chemistry. If need be, they can be cleaned by boiling, by citric acid, in the dish washer etc. - as a quality teacup, they don't absorb water.
